I even received a popup saying that I had reached the lands that we were crusading for and received the Crusader trait for my King.

I think it is definitely bugged. At the end of the Crusade my beneficiary was made king and I got a ton of Prestige and Piety Last edited by wven ; 14 Jun, am. Originally posted by wade. Pozz View Profile View Posts. Originally posted by Stolen Picture :. Originally posted by Pozz :.

Hmm in that case it might be that they really were on the same day. Did it take you long after the crusade was called to reach the destination? Originally posted by galadon3 :. Karlshammar View Profile View Posts.

It's not related to personally leading troops. It is based on war participation score.

It can trigger when your war score is not at least 0. And hurry up! The next time he has to scold you he'll excommunicate you. Originally posted by Karlshammar :.The Crusades in the Middle Ages were wars that were ordered by the Pope of the Catholic Church for Catholic's to fight the infidels in the name of Christ, and those who succeeded will be given remission for sins, in order to gain access to heaven. In Crusader Kings II, the Crusades are different in that their aim is to conquer holdings within a specific de jure kingdom, with the gains being granted to the catholic ruler holding the kingdom, or, if the kingdom is not held by a catholic, to the ruler contributing most to the war.

Every once in a while, the Pope will order a Crusade to the Catholic nations to fight an infidel, usually to a Muslim nation. While early in the game as in 's crusades might also be ordered to take a pagan nation. When a Crusade is called, it is highly recommended to get allies to join, especially if the target of a Crusade is extremely powerful. For example, if the target is Egypt in the 13th century, 13th century France will need some help from other nations like Scotland or the Holy Roman Empire to assist in that crusade.

Or if your nation is very powerful with massive levies ready to be deployed like the Holy Roman Empire, you can go solo and defeat the target alone. Targets of the crusade usually have done things diplomatically that ruins the politics of a certain nation. For example: If the Sultanate of Rum defeats Georgia and takes Derbent, then it is possible for a crusade to happen so Derbent goes to Catholic hands.

Also, note that any heretic nation can be a target of a Crusade, so keep Religious authority high to not become a heretic. The Orthodox Church however, will not be subject to that because the Eumenical Patriarchy never issues a crusade. Beware however, you will gain holdings that is not a barony also, make them a new vassal so you don't have a rebellion later, and if the duchy fell to other vassal's hand, make sure you keep them happy because the long distance between them and you can cause a problem.

Note also that the Sunni Caliphate works similarly like the Papacy. If you won the crusade, there is a chance that the Caliph will issue a jihad against the nation who won the crusade. Jihads are similar to a Crusade in that it orders either Sunni or Shia nations to wage war against the infidels, most likely Christian nations, both Catholic or Orthodox.

Either of the two Caliphs can and probably will call a jihad, so you need to be prepared for a counterattack. The most powerful way to gain contribution is to fight enemy armies. This even counts for battles that you lose. Seek out enemy doomstacks with your own and engage early and often.

Ironically, it is the capturing of provinces that increases the crusade warscore the most, while winning individual battles does little.

The ideal situation has you hunting down and crushing the enemy with your army, while your crusading allies park their armies in various provinces and slowly capture territory.

So if any catholic claimant exists. The crusader trait is a very desirable trait for any character to have. This includes the pope. For this reason alone, it is recommended to join all crusades called, even if the pope is likely to lose or you are unlikely to be the top contributor. If you have a male heir who is 16 or older, it is advised you bring him along for the crusade as well.Home Discussions Workshop Market Broadcasts. Change language.

Started as Duchess Matilda of Tuscany in However, just before the crusade ended i got an even to join the Templars and abdicate to my 1st-born daughter, so i went with it, no big deal. Actualy it is a big deal since my new beneficiery is my mother who can't inherit titles because she is in a Holy Orderwho became the 1st queen of Jerusalem, and I chose to play with her, so I practitly scored a double win in a crusade.

I only regret sieging Jerusalem to get the Lance of Longius, and then giving it to my 2nd daugther, whom i inteded to play with. Last edited by Jzma ; 5 Jan, am. Showing 1 - 1 of 1 comments. Per page: 15 30 Date Posted: 5 Jan, am. Posts: 1. Discussions Rules and Guidelines.

Is this normal? I didn't want to be the beneficiary, since it's in ironman I'm now screwed. Can you win a crusade and not become the beneficiary? I didn't see an option when it was won. It just said your beneficiary got the land then I became him.

That save is basically trash now. Showing 1 - 10 of 10 comments. Theres an event that lets you choose once the crusade is won, either you clicked the option to play as the new crusader king or theres a bug.

That's why I haven't had the courage yet to play ironman. One little honest mistake can ruin your campaign. You know that you can savescum in ironman as well? Just kill the game process in task manager and launch it again. You will be playing from the last autosave They are happening twice a year so thats quite a timespan.

By the way, before important wars or decisions you can copy-paste save from documents and if something goes awry you can replace new save with the old one. Thanks, yah, the beneficiary is too far removed to marry back in, would take forever. I was playing as lombard going for the outremer achievment. I married into the karlings, took over most of the french empire as a lombard after many years only to lose it to some scrub beneficiary. Pretty rough, anyways, I tried ctr alt dlt to exit before it saves but it was too late.

I must have pressed something after the crusade, it said something like "in another life or some crap" I was like yah, ok, whatever.Home Discussions Workshop Market Broadcasts. Change language. Thereafter, I would have the necessary connection to fall on the Fatimids.

Weaknesses: I won't be getting my contribution rewards. This means I'll only get 8K gold, 5. Best case scenario: Jerusalem holds, I pound on the Seljuks and the Fatimids, Byzantium leaves us alone and doesn't have to be crippled by me, goes against the Seljuks instead. Pope sends a crusade to Anatolia or even Egypt. Worst case scenario: I have to cripple Byzzies, I get tangled up with Byzzies, France and two caliphs at the same time, meaning I won't be able to prevent all war losses for my allies.

In future wars both Jerusalem and Thrace will have to be tackled at once, plus my ruler and his son and perhaps even his son as a defensive ally. Also, in terms of crusade rewards, thrace gets 16K gold, 10K prestige and 5.

That will get them access to plenty of upgrades, mercs, all the alliances they want, Request Money from the Pope and more. And I'll be getting 14K gold, 9K prestige and 4. If AI gets aggressive about declaring wars, that will in fact make some potential between Thrace, Jerusalem, me, mercs and orders.

If Thrace finds an opportunity to expand a little, it should become self-reliant, and start expanding more.

Weaknesses: Even combined, Thrace and Jerusalem they won't normally have the manpower to go against the Seljuks or the Fatimids, forget both. Thrace can be overrun quickly if its allies don't manage to move fast. And the initial 16K gold can be spent very quickly if it has to pay for mercs. Thrace and Jerusalem, even combined as allies, won't expand.

AI most probably won't make aggressive calculation for offensive wars based on hopes of calling me into the war on top of mercs and holy orders. Best case scenario: Jerusalem and Thrace survive, Byzzies leave Thrace alone or vassalize it, Christian realms get a second breat, some expansion starts. It will still take a long time. Worst case scenario: Byzzies, Seljuks and Fatties, and some of their largest vassals, all fall on Thrace and Jerusalem and mop it up quickly.

This may be enough for them to finally start regaining some land from the Seljuks which would be my preferencebut so far Byzzies have been losing.Home Discussions Workshop Market Broadcasts. So should I just not select a beneficiary at all? Showing 1 - 4 of 4 comments. Originally posted by Sir Oswald Mosley :. Originally posted by SkyCam :.

The beneficiary will usually end up as one of your dukes or counts in the new kingdom if you keep the title for yourself.

Indeed a common strategy I use if I am an empire is to grant the kingdom to my beneficiary. Same outcome as letting the Pope hand it out, but my empire controls the new lands, rather than having it be independent. Honestly the new crusader kingdom is a lot more likely to survive if you retain control. OTOH sometimes I make somebody I don't like the beneficiary to get them out of my realm, obviously I don't choose to keep the lands with that strategy.

Guys on crusade took something, or saw an undefended area on the way to the main target and just decided to stop there.
